The Art of Ikat – Weaving Tradition into Modern Elegance
The captivating world of Ikat has inspired imaginations for centuries, renowned for its bold patterns and vibrant colours. The word “Ikat” comes from the Malay term meaning “to bind” – a fitting description of this unique technique.
Ikat is created through a complex resist-dyeing process, where threads are tightly bound with natural fibres to protect certain areas from dye. These threads are dyed, dried, and re-bound multiple times to form the distinctive patterns. The final weaving process is done on traditional looms, with each step reflecting the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans.
We are particularly proud to collaborate with a distinguished family-run workshop in Uzbekistan, a country famed for its Ikat tradition. Here, master artisans preserve this ancient craft while blending it with modern designs that combine the elegance of tradition with contemporary style.
Through this partnership, we are able to create limited-edition garments that not only captivate with their beauty but also carry the history and dedication of the Uzbek Ikat craft.
